Sports Injury
The Heeler Centre has a dedicated sports therapy team dedicated to treating all types of sports injuries
How we treat sports injuries
No matter what the type of sports injury sustained, at The Heeler Centre we treat your injury using the following four phases of care:
1st phase
Eliminate pain
In this first phase of treatment the primary goal is to get you out of pain so that you can get back to your day to day activities. Once you are pain-free we can move on to finding the cause of the condition.
2nd phase
Identify source
The next stage is to find the reason you sustained the injury. For example, why did you pull your hamstring? Was it a pelvis issue? Or a knee problem? Or, maybe, a foot problem?
3rd phase
Develop plan
Once you are pain-free, and we understand the cause of the injury, we begin rehabilitation of the injury through home exercises using a plan developed for you by your therapist.
4th phase
Maintenance
This phase is optional but is essential for optimal performance. Maintenance-based care keeps your body at 100% through sports massage or chiropractic care or a combination, on a regular basis.
What is rehabilitation?
Sports injuries can be anything from impact injuries to muscle tears and ligament sprains.
Rehabilitation is restoring the ability to function in a normal or near-normal way after an illness or injury. Rehabilitation programmes reduce recovery time and speed up the return to work and sports activities (Source: The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, 2000)
A dedicated programme of sports injury rehabilitation benefits you by restoring a full range of movement in terms of strength, flexibility, power and balance and restores your functional and sports-specific skills.
Most immediately, it helps you control pain, reduce inflammation and re-establishes neuromuscular control.
Because we know you want to get back to doing your activity again as soon as possible - despite the injury - our rehabilitation plans are designed to maintain cardio fitness, improve core strength and stability and build your confidence to make an easy transition back to the field, track or court.
What to expect
We work as a team to ensure that your specific injury is addressed fully, this may mean seeing just one of us, or a combination. Within our sessions, we will use our own treatment methods in combination with injury-specific exercises, stretches, treatment advice and body conditioning techniques that are very effective and can be performed at home, at work or in the gym.
Your journey to recovery will be managed by your lead therapist which will vary depending on your injury. They will advise you on how often you need treatment, a time frame of recovery, and when you need to see someone else to enhance your results.
Not sure who you need to see to fix your sports injury? No problem. Call us on 01273 843780 and our support team will help you decide who the best therapist will be to help you.
