A little about Lee
I qualified from the BSO (now known as The University College of Osteopathy) with a Masters Degree. I also completed a course in sports massage, which led me to work with marathon running events treating charity runners for the Cancer Research Trust & Bone Cancer Trusts. During my osteopathy training, I also teamed up with Shoreham Football Club to provide their pitch side first aid, where I first started my specialist interest in exercise and rehabilitation.
How did you get into osteopathy?
I got into osteopathy from personal experience of having treatment. Having started my working life as a refrigeration and air-conditioning engineer, I developed some terrible shoulder pain. After my GP and three physios were unable to resolve the problem and taking medication that didn’t agree with me, a friend referred me to their osteopath.
After a course of treatments, seeing her helped reduce my tension and retrain my posture, which helped drastically reduce my pain, I haven’t looked back. I decided that refrigeration wasn’t for me, and I wanted to help people like my osteopath helped me! So I quit my job and headed to university to study for a Masters Degree in Osteopathy.
How long have you been at the clinic and what do you enjoy?
Since qualifying in 2015, I have been lucky enough to work in some amazing clinics with fantastic practitioners I learned much from and gained a wealth of experience within private practice. In February 2020, I joined The Heeler Centre.
Alongside the traditional methods of osteopathy, I have also enhanced my skills to use western acupuncture and Kinesio taping.
I enjoy treating people of any age and enjoy the varied types of pain that I see in the clinic, from back pains to headaches. In addition, my pitchside experience has led me to enjoy the rehabilitation side of injury, and I particularly enjoy working with people suffering from chronic pain.
When I’m not being an osteopath, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I live by the sea in Shoreham, where I grew up and raised my own family. I particularly enjoy long walks, swimming and clay pigeon shooting, watching football and rugby and reading research papers on pain sciences.
Three people I have had success with treating:
- A 20-year-old professional male runner who had Achilles pain. After four treatments, all while still competing and training, I managed to resolve his pain, following which he achieved a personal best race time!
- A 50-year-old female who had had low back pain for over 20 years. From seeing me using massage and osteopaths techniques, I reduced her muscular tension and lower back pain. In addition, I explored the possibility that her traumatic car accident and its shock had manifested as recurring pain since her initial injuries.
- A 60-year-old lady who had sprained her knee during an International run across two countries. After six sessions of treatments and rehabilitation, she was pain-free and back running around the world!
