Holding onto emotional pain or dealing with grief or other traumatic experiences can seriously affect our health. Counselling helps you cope by talking through issues with a sensitive listener in a confidential setting.

There’s a link between physical pain and emotional pain. Stress, anxiety and depression can all lead to manifestations of physical pain. And while emotional pain can be brought about by physical pain, once the physical pain has disappeared it’s still possible to hold onto the emotional effects of pain. That’s why it’s important to look at all the circumstances around your pain, affecting both physical and emotional.

Who does counselling help?

There may be a specific event that brings you to counselling, you may feel you’re struggling in your relationships, be experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression and general low self-esteem, or you may just want a space outside your everyday life to be listened to.

Counselling at The Heeler Centre offers a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings and experiences, uncover a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, and identify and change unwanted and unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

What to expect

Our first step is meeting for an initial assessment to explore what’s brought you to counselling and what you’d like to achieve through the work. This first meeting is a chance to see how well you and your therapist work with each other. For counselling to be effective, you share your thoughts and emotions openly with your therapist, so there needs to be a healthy, trusting relationship.

If you are comfortable and happy working with your therapist, further sessions can be scheduled to suit you, usually on a weekly basis.
