Sarah Sweet | Psychotherapy
A bit about yourself?
I am a warm, sensitive, and empathetic person and have a wide and diverse range of life experiences. This has given me the capacity to connect well with people and with their many different kinds of situations and experiences.
Why did you choose to get into counselling/psychotherapy?
There have been times in my life when I needed and received relational support and being able to work at depth therapeutically really helped me gain insight and have more awareness. This in turn allowed me to connect with myself in a much deeper way. Ultimately it has enabled me to move forwards into being able to live my life more fully. I decided that I wanted to offer this to other people knowing how much it has benefitted me. I chose a mindfulness-based psychotherapy training because being able to bring awareness to a situation is like shining a light – it helps us see clearly and this can be invaluable. Sometimes it is only possible to do this in relationship and with the support of someone who is there to help facilitate that.
What do you enjoy most?
I really love seeing people making lasting transformations in their lives which take them towards their better good. It is such an honour and a privilege to be part of someone’s healing journey. Helping them reconnect with their inherent health and wisdom, with their joy and the unique qualities they have as a human being. When we are given support and attunement, we can work through difficulties and make changes. We can start to create lives we want to live that are more aligned with our inner values. I am always so deeply touched by clients’ ability to do this.
What areas do you specialise in?
This way of working suits many issues so it is not the case that I specialise only in certain areas. Oftentimes we may not realise that the way we are responding to current difficulties has its roots in childhood experiences and traumas. There may perhaps be losses or other adverse experiences and traumatic imprints which are unconsciously affecting how we are now. Sometimes we need to explore these, and it can be painful facing what may have happened. But doing this allows us to let go of out-moded habitual ways of thinking, feeling and being which may have been holding us back. This helps us upgrade to a version of ourselves which is more responsive to our current situation and frees us up.
What conditions do you most enjoy treating?
I really enjoy working with whatever a client wants to explore! This way of working is a joint process of exploration and deepening awareness. It can be so beneficial for a wide range of issues and difficulties. I love finding ways to help clients restore their resilience and to understand how healing awareness can be. No matter how old we are or how difficult and seemingly impossible or intractable our situation, we can work through limiting beliefs and grow. In becoming able to face our pain we find we have a different relationship with it and with ourselves. This helps us reconnect to our inner wisdom and our innate health and wholeness. I really want to help people do this and I absolutely love it when they do.
