A little about Toni

A warm hello to you, and welcome to this 'about me' page! My name is Toni and I am a counselling therapist. I have experience of being both a therapist and a client. Because of this, I know how important it is to find the "right fit": a counsellor who you feel gets you, and who you can build enough trust with to bring your whole self. I have worked in the health and social care sector for over a decade - be that in statutory services or charities. When I'm not working, I love to go for walks in nature with my two dogs (Ernie and Otis), or to get lost in a good book - often some sort of dystopian or fantasy fiction!

Why did you choose to become a counselling therapist?

I chose to be a therapist because I know first-hand how powerfully healing this support can be. I am curious about what it means to be human and am passionate about finding ways to support myself and others to thrive in this world - not just survive. It's hard to truly pinpoint exactly when I knew I wanted to do this work.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

It is the most moving and astounding privilege to be trusted by someone with their inner world and thoughts. I enjoy the relationships I build with those I meet. It's difficult to say exactly what I enjoy the most, as this shifts and changes with each individual. Something consistent I would say is the joy of seeing people build their self-compassion and self-kindness.

What areas do you specialise in? What do you most enjoy helping people with?

I find this a tricky question to answer. Primarily because I don't see myself as an 'expert' in anything, and aim to bring myself as another human being helping you to navigate the world. For me, being a human being is complex, and we carry with us our whole histories - everything we have lived through, and everything we hope for the future. I am keen to work with you in all your uniqueness. Maybe I would call my specialism 'Toni-Therapy'!
In practical terms, I work with people who have various lived experiences including:

  • Loss (bereavement, divorce, separation, displacement, miscarriage, stillbirth)
  • Family/Relational Conflict (domestic violence, neglect, abuse, family estrangement, infertility, sexual violence, trauma)
  • Identity (low self-esteem or confidence, gender, neurodiversity, care-experienced adults)
  • Peer Conflict (bullying, friendships, isolation, harassment and stalking)
  • Health and Well-being (self-harm, suicidal ideation, terminal diagnosis, complex health, depression, anxiety)
